German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland (KDG) will introduce video-on-demand and more HD TV channels during the coming months, according to KDG CEO Adrian von Hammerstein in an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt. He also said that KDG will start deploying Docsis 3.0 equipment enabling itself to offer broadband internet with maximum download speeds of up to 50 Mbps before the end of this year. KDG has been testing Docsis 3.0 and was able to offer a maximum download speed of 200 Mbps. Von Hammerstein also said that deploying Docsis 2.0/3.0 costs EUR 30 per households while deploying VDSL costs EUR 300 per household. KDG currently has around 1.8 million broadband customers, exceeding its target of between 500,000 and 750,000 for 31 March of this year.
